In 1993 I had the pleasure of meeting D.C. It was at a promotional tour for his book in Philadelphia. I dragged a friend, and left my N.J. town hours ahead to make sure I had a prime place in line to meet the "great" one! My place was third in line on a blistering hot summer day, where the line stretched around about seven city blocks or so. When I finally handed him my book to sign after hours, I just froze! Nothing would come out to tell him who to address it to. He just looked back at me with that wry smile and started cracking up! He then handed me back the book and thanked me for coming. It's an experience I'll never forget.
